We are very honoured indeed to have recently received a ringing endorsement from John Goode, a highly experienced and respected expert in the maritime community. Thank you, John, we truly appreciate you taking the time and trouble to write about us and it really means a lot to have a man of your calibre and standing approve what we do on behalf of our students here at the academy. You can read below what John had to say about our establishment…
John Goode Endorses Seahaven Maritime Academy
It is my privilege to heartily recommend Seahaven Maritime Academy to anyone seeking truly exceptional sea training. Whether it’s for leisure only courses to gain RYA certificates of competence or to obtain professional MCA qualifications to work on commercial vessels (from inshore and offshore workboats all the way through to Master of ocean going super-yachts up to 3000 tons) you’ll be in the hands of excellent seamen and dedicated trainers who are well known for going the extra mile for their students.
I’ve known Seahaven’s Principal and Chief Instructor, Mike Clift and Steve Brand, for more than two decades. Having followed their careers from the time they taught all levels of RYA sail and power courses for me at Southern Sailing – a world renowned sea school that I owned and ran for 22 years until handing over the helm to others in 2007 – to their considerable experience of commanding foreign going commercial vessels of all types and sizes, I know they run a very happy and highly professional ship that maintains the ethos of putting the student first and providing ‘proper’ sea training which is so hard to find these days. In their bid to produce top quality graduates, there are no “fast track” Yachtmaster courses to be found here!
I’m impressed with their purpose built, full facility training centre in the port of Newhaven and, I can vouch that they put emphasis on practical navigation and seamanship-all taught with patience and good humour while passing on the core skills that are still so necessary in this push button day and age.
Their low instructor to student ratio, infectious enthusiasm, and hands on approach enables everyone to be prepared thoroughly in all aspects of confined waters pilotage and boat handling-and the confidence they inspire will serve you well when you venture far offshore.
I highly commend them to you.
